Tiffany (1848-1943) and his designers used his trademark favrile glass nature-inspired themes for extraordinary windows, mosaics, art glass décor, and most notably, lamps. Our modgy draws inspiration from scarlet blooms that play across the surface of the poppy shade – one of the 132 tiffany lamps in the collection at the new-york historical society. Designed by clara driscoll, tiffany’s innovative manager of the women’s glass cutting department (the tiffany girls), it features her ingenious idea of incorporating a brass filigree overlay, giving intricate detail to the piece.
