Fall Open House this weekend!!

Goodness this past weekend's temps were absolutely wonderful!! Did you get to go outside and enjoy? We sat out on our porch in the rocking chairs and listened to the windchimes! The dried cornstalks were rustling in the breeze and the hummingbirds are busy eating for their trek south they will be embarking on soon. Early Fall is such a splendid time to be outdoors!!

We have been SO busy this week preparing for our 8th annual Fall Open House starting tomorrow (Thursday 9/15) and ending on Saturday. There are SO MANY wonderful items in the store right now! (I mean even more than usual ;) LOL) We just received our super tasty apple ciders, summer sausage, mustards and more! We will have some delish baked goods and candies available as well!

Now who's ready for a yummy recipe???

This weeks tasty treat is perfect to make for those upcoming pumpkin patch trips!!

Grab some of our delicious Apple cider to go with it too!!! Don't forget our in-house mulling spices as well!

Pumpkin Patch Cookies

1 c. shortening

1 c. sugar

1 c. canned pumpkin

1 egg, beaten

2 t. vanilla extract, divided

2 c. all-purpose flour

1⁄2 t. salt

1 t. baking soda

1 t. baking powder

1 t. cinnamon

8-oz. pkg. cream cheese, softened

1⁄4 c. butter, softened

2 c. powdered sugar

Garnish: orange sugar

Blend together shortening, sugar, pumpkin and egg; stir in one teaspoon vanilla. Combine remaining ingredients except cream cheese, butter and powdered sugar. Gradually beat flour mixture into pumpkin mixture. Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls onto greased baking sheets. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes; cool completely. Blend together cream cheese and butter; stir in remaining vanilla. Gradually add powdered sugar until fluffy. Spread cookies with frosting. Sprinkle with orange sugar. Makes 2 to 3 dozen.
